Replication Code Package for Cash Transfers Do Not Increase Traumatic Injury and Mortality: Evidence from Alaska
Creators
Description
These code files, which serve as a replication package for the published article "Cash Transfers Do Not Increase Traumatic Injury and Mortality: Evidence from Alaska," implement interrupted time series (ITS) analyses to examine the impact of Alaska's annual cash transfer (the Permanent Fund Dividend or PFD) on traumatic injury and mortality rates. The code first takes raw data on individual emergency department cases and mortality records and generates aggregates of the number of traumatic injury and mortality cases each day. The daily aggregates are used to fit autoregressive negative binomial regression models on data from the 30 days leading up to the cash distribution each year, which are then used to autoregressively simulate the expected number of traumatic injuries and deaths in the days after the cash distribution. These analyses rely on restricted-use data provided by the Alaska Trauma Registry (ATR) and Alaska Health Analytics and Vital Records (HAVRS). Researchers can request access to ATR data by emailing doh.tsak.info@alaska.gov and HAVRS data by emailing doh.havrs.info@alaska.gov.
