Description

This collection comprises two multi-band GeoTIFF raster datasets at a resolution of 5 arcminutes over the global domain, representing research outputs on the carbon opportunity costs of pasturelands and animal feed crops. The primary dataset (Hectacres Occupied by Pasturelands and Feed Crops) represents hectares of pastureland currently occupied by feed crops. Its two pixel bands capture areas sourced from the lowest carbon areas and areas sourced from the highest carbon areas respectively. The derived dataset (Carbon Opportunity Cost of Present-Day Pasturelands and Animal Feed Crops) represents estimates of carbon opportunity cost in tonnes of potential vegetation per hectare suppressed by pasturelands and present-day feed crops, derived from data collected approximately over the past two decades (2000–2020). This dataset contains three bands representing median, low (5th percentile), and high (95th percentile) estimates of carbon in potential vegetation. Both datasets are released under an Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.
