Data for Knowledge Related to Oral Health Literacy - Spanish (KROHL-S)

Data and documentation from a study to develop and validate the Knowledge Related to Oral Health Literacy Spanish (KROHL-S) instrument to assess oral health knowledge and other modifiable factors at the individual level among the Hispanic population as related to oral health literacy. The questionnaire consists of orally administered open-ended questions to measure knowledge that is condition specific (caries, periodontal disease, oral cancer, tooth loss, and malocclusion) and domain that is knowledge specific (identification of condition, causes, prevention, treatment, general knowledge). To validate the instrument, a cross-sectional study was conducted at NYU's College of Dentistry. A convenience sample of 175 self-identified Spanish-speaking adults completed the KROHL-S questionnaire. Participants also completed the Comprehensive Measure of Oral Health Knowledge (CMOHK) and a single-item literacy screening tool in Spanish (SILS). A research team member administered the questionnaire orally, reading each question aloud; a written copy was offered as well. All collected answers were entered in Qualtrics in real time.
