CIDOC CRM Game: Florentine Drawings Edition
Creators
Description
This work is an edition of the CIDOC CRM Game that has been adapted to showcase a scenario based on the online linked open database project Drawings of the Florentine Painters (https://florentinedrawings.itatti.harvard.edu/). Derived from three editions of art historian Bernard Berenson’s catalogue raisonné of Italian Renaissance drawings by Florentine artists, the database aggregates Berenson’s commentary and links information about drawings, artists, and museums. In the CIDOC CRM Game: Florentine Drawings Edition players use physical cards in guided exercises to explore the CIDOC CRM ontology in a tactile way and practice translating natural language sentences into the form required by structured linked data ontologies. The game consists of printable cards (for CIDOC CRM classes and properties as well as edition-specific instances), game boards, introductory slides, narrative story scenarios, and a game manual. Cards are of different sizes and are coded with colors and icons to differentiate them according to various categories and relationships. Also included in this deposit are a lesson plan for adapting the game for a shorter class session, exercise answer keys, and a version of the stories document with instructor annotations. Though not required, if users wish to run the PHP scripts (linked below) which were used to generate the cards (for example, if printing on a different size paper), the spreadsheets and image files required for printing this edition’s instance cards are also included.
