(We are indebted to Mr. Henry Durnin Tangi¬
pahoa, La, for this song.)
Air :— Doṁnall Meiḋreaċ.
Ní ċreidim go deoiġ i n-fear le mo ḃeó
Ḃeiṫ boċt no go leonfaiḋ an bás é,
Is a liaċt sin dóiġ a d-tigid na torrṫa
Air ḋuine gan stór is é ársaiḋ.
Ga fiosaċ neaċ beo cia maidin no neoin
A g-cuirfeaḋ an Ríġ glórṁar áġ air
Mur ṫeagṁuiġ a ċróisde a tasdail na
m-boṫairiḋ
Do Ṫoirḋealḃaċ cóir Ua n-Ámuil.
Níor ċruinniġ se stór no cisde de'n ór,
Aċ i caiṫ'd' d-tíġ 'n óíl go fáilte,
Ṡuiḋfeaḋ sé air bórd ó ṁaidin Dia
Doṁnaid
Go n-éireoċ' an lá Dia Sáċairne.
Ní ḋeunaḋ se cóṁair le mná no mí-lórd
Ní ḟoirseaḋ, ní ṫreaḋ'ḋ, 's ní ḟálaḋ,
'S i ḃ-feic siḃ fa ḋóiġ mur ċur fortún
i g-cóisde,
Toirḋealḃaċ cóir Ua n-Ámuil.
Ní raiḃ tiġ-leanna fa ċuairt ó Ċarr¬
uig i d-tuaiḋ
Go h-Innis-Eoġain suairc no fáilte,
Ó sin go Maġnuad 's go Dealgan na g-
cuaċ
Nár ṫiormuiġ sé suas, mo ṗáisde.
Dá dtagaḋ na sluaiġte ṗronnaḋ gan
ġruaim,
Na caisgiḃ o'n ċuan gan ċáiniḋ
'S ní ḃeiḋeaḋ oistler gan duais o Toir¬
ḋealḃaċ ruaḋ
Fan eaċruiḋ ċur suas air stábla.
B'ḟeárr liom le mo ḃeó gan ċapaill gan
ḃó,
Gan fearann, is fós gan fárus,
Ná imṫeaċt 'sa ród mur Íarus óig,
Mac Dadalus eolaċ aġṁar.
B'ḟeárr imṫeaċt 'sa meoḋan mur teag¬
asgaḋ ḋó
Ná brosdaḋ le stróḋ go h-árd suas,
Gur ṫuit sé fa ḋóiġ is a ċleite gan
treoir,
is a d-tonna na Boċna baṫaḋ é.
A Ṫoirḋealḃaiġ feuċ 's na lean-sa don
riagal
Le 'r cailleaḋ an Fial-ṁac Aḃaid
Tráṫ ṫeabaḋ don ġrian leis na h-eaċ¬
ruid do riaraiḋ
Ag imṫeaṫt le riaġal a ṁáṫara.
Leig leis na sriantaiḋ, 's ḃrosduiḋ go
dian
Na greaḋa ḃí Diana dan-ḃras
Gur losgaḋ 'sna ciantaiḋ na Saracens
siar,
'S naċ dona ċuaiḋ a ṁian le Ṗtaon.
Dá nglacfá mo ċoṁairle a ḋuine ní
ṫaḃarfá
Toilte de 'n ór is gráḋ ḋó :
D'aigneaḋ ní ṫógṫa seaċ is mar ċoir
duit,
Aċ imṫeaċt 'sa nós a 'r gnaṫ leat.
Ní'l ann aċ ceo, 's ní ṁaireann sé g-
cóṁnuiḋ,
'S is caṫuiġe ró ṁór a lán de,
'S go g-craṫfaḋ an cóisde an fear naċ
ḃ-fuil eólac,
'Sa laṫaiġ is a ṫón a n-áirde.
As we are going to press we have
received from Mr. J. Nyhan Knock¬
bue N. S one of the finest pieces of
Irish poetry, entitled Smuaínte air
Éirinn, which we have ever seen. It,
with the author's name, will appear
in the next issue. Also, Jennie Ward,
one of Sweeney’s best efforts, at least,
our enthusiastic contributor, Mr. M.
P. Ward, says so, and that's Gospel.
