AN GAOḊAL
GIḊ SEO M AṀARC DÉIĠIONAĊ AIR ÉIRINN A
ĊAOIḊ.
Fonn — An Cúilean.
Giḋ seo m'aṁarc déiġionaċ air a Éirinn a ċaoiḋ,
Ġeaḃfad Éire 'n gaċ tír a mbéiḋ cuisle mo ċroiḋe;
Béiḋ d'uċt mar ṫeaċ-ḋídin, a ċéile mo ċlaon,
Is do rosg mar reult eoluis a n-geur-ḃruid i g-cian
Go cuan uaigneaċ fásaiġ, no cuan coiṁiḋeaċ gorg.
Ann naċ féidir le ar náṁaid ar gcoiscéim do lorg.
Eulóċad le mo Ċúilḟionn, 's ní aireoċaiḋ mé an síon
Ċo geur leis an náṁaid, tá d'ar n-dibirt as díon.
Dearfad air ór-ḟolt tiuġ, fáinneaċ do ċinn,
Is éistfead le ceoltaiḃ do ċláirsiġe tá binn,
Gan eagla go stróicfeaḋ an Sasanaċ feall,
Aon teud ar do ċruit, no aon dlaoiḋ as do ċeann.
THO' THE LAST GLIMPSE OF ERIN
Air — The Coulin.
Tho' the last glimpse of Erin with sorrow I see,
Yet wherever thou art shall seem Erin to me;
In exile thy bosom shall still be my home,
And thine eyes make my climate wherever we roam
To the gloom of some desert or cold rocky shore,
Where the eye of the stranger can haunt us no more,
I will fly with my Coulin, and think the rough wind
Less rude than the foes we leave frowning behind.
And I'Il gaze on thy gold hair, as graceful it wreathes
And hang o'er thy soft harp, as wildly it breathes;
Nor dread that the cold hearted Saxon will tear
One chord from that harp, or one lock from that
hair.

The Gael being intensely Irish, it is, therefore,
intensely American and Democratic. Hence, to
avert the danger of a high salaried oligarchy ta¬
king the government of the country into their own
hands, the Gael, hereby, initiates a movement in
consonance with the idea that no Republican
official, save the President should receive a high¬
er salary than five thousand dollars a year,
