AN GAOḊAL.
AḂRÁN.
An "Ċraoiḃín Aoiḃinn" ro ċan.
Óċ! oċ ón, tá gaoṫ d'a séideaḋ,
Óċ! oċ ón, tá anfaḋ d'a reubaḋ,
'S me, mo leun, air easḃaiḋ céile,
Fágṫa air an d-traiġ;
Tamuid sgarṫa ó na ċéile
Me féin agus mo ġráḋ!
D'imṫiġ sé go fealltaċ breugaċ,
Na éist' a ġaoṫ, a anfaiḋ na éist leis,
Leanaiḋ é, d'a ḃualaḋ reubaḋ,
Leanaiḋ é go bráṫ ;
Go g-cuiṁniġ sé an té do ṫréig sé,
Do ṫréig sé air an d-traiġ.
Ó! a Ḋé, na tonna borba!
Sgread fiaḋain na gaoiṫe gairḃe!
Bualaḋ na d-tonn 's na fairge,
Briseaḋ air an d-traiġ!
Coisg, a Ḋé, ó coisg na stoirme,
Buḋ é, buḋ é mo ġraḋ!
Óċ! oċ ón, a rúin, mo rún-sa
D'ḟag tú mé ag gol go gruamaċ,
D'ḟag uú mé go brónaċ buaiḋriġṫe
Uaigneaċ gaċ la;
Aċ, a Ḋé, ó ciuiniġ ciuiniġ
An ṁuir 'n a ḃ-fuil mo ġraḋ!
Taḃair ḋó taisdeal slan saḃalta
Tionntaiġ uile ġaoṫ contralta,
Ciuiniġ uile ġaoṫ ró-laidir,
Seol le síon breaġ,
Go h-uċt a ṁuirnín é tar saile,
— Cia b' é air biṫ a ġraḋ.

SONG.
BY CRAOIBHIN AOIBHINN.
Alas! alas! the wind is blowing,
Alas! the gale is fiercer growing,
And, Oh! my grief, my love is going,
To a foreign land :
We parted where the tide is flowing —
Parted on the strand.
She left me for a false deceiver,
(List not fierce gale, I would not grieve
her)
Winds pursue her — never leave her —
Keep her thoughts on me —
Me whom she left, — her fond believer -
By the sounding sea.
Alas! Oh God! the angry ocean.
The savage tempest sits in motion.
Still; Oh still, their fierce commotion.
Bursting on the shore!
I loved her with a true devotion,
In my bosom's core.
Alas! for you, in grief I moan, love,
You left me weeping here alone, love,
My hope, on earth, with you has flown
[love,
Sadly I repine. —
But Oh! good God! she was my own
[love,
Calm the raging brine!
On her journey safely lead her,
Let no adverse winds impede her,
Pleasant weather still precede her,
To the happy West.
For her sake I am a pleader —
Her I loved the best.
