AN GAOḊAL
Free Trade.
FONN, — IS MILSE PÓG ḂIDIḊ.
le Tomás Ua Gríoṁṫa.
Tá brón air ḟearaiḃ, mo ṁairg, ní'l ceol ag éin,
Tá cailíniġe an ḃaile gan piġinn 'na láṁa ná réal,
Ní'l sgilling 'na spagaḋ ċum hata no bán cockade
Aċt buairt d'a ngradaḋ gan sosa ó ṫáin free trade.
A ċoṁarsain 'sa ċaraid is aindeas an sgeul é súd
Le ráḋ le aindir ḃreáġ cneasda na mbán ġlac fionn,
Do ṫuilleaċ go tapaḋ is sgaipeaċ gan spéis an punt
Air ḃoċtaiḃ an ḃaile, is air ṫaisdealaḋ tíor gan ċúṁa.
IS minic do ṫugasa teagasg ṡlíġe ḃeag fein
Do ḋaoine an ḃaile gan ceangal le ráḋtaiḃ bréag,
Seasaṁ am aice mar ḟearaiḃ gur ṁian ḃeiṫ saor,
IS brúid na Sacsan do sgaipe 'sé a g-cuid free trade.
Is iomḋa céad mallaċt 'sa ḃaṫas air loċt an ḟill,
Do ṁealladar sinne le gliocus, is claon 'na gcroiḋe,
Do ġealladar obair gan sosa, is páġa ṁór groiḋe,
Aċt "fairiaor" ní'l aguinn 'na n-ionad, aċ gáḋ gan sgíṫ.
Dá siuḃalfuinsi trasna gaċ baile go Heaḃroċ Nuaḋ,
Mar a ḃ-feicinsi gasra calma, áluinn óg,
Ḃíoċ ceol is aitios, is bainnis gaċ lá air bórd,
Anois ní'l aco aċ práiseaċ, is súp gan feoil,
Tá m' éadan lasda le sealad, is fíor an sgéal,
Ó léiġeasa starṫa d' ḟág dealḃ mo ḋuiṫċe féin,
Tá náire is aiṫis am ġearraḋ gaċ lá dam ṡaoġal
Éireannaiġ ḃeiṫ ceangailte, snamaiġṫe aig loċt free trade
An Ceangal.
Do léiġeas go minic ar ṫubaist gaċ crioċ fa'n ngréin,
Gur claonta duine do ṫaraing gaċ díṫ, mo leun;
Tá an tír seo aguine d'a sgriosa le sgiursa géar,
Ag smisde duine gan tuigsint 'na ċeann nó léiġean.
The Gaelic Congress held in the
Mansion House, Dublin, March 27th,
at which the Lord Mayor presided,
passed resolutions declaring that all
Public Officials in Irish-speaking dis¬
tricts should pass an examination in
Irish. And in obedience to that reso¬
lution, the Tuam Board of Guardians
passed resolutions giving preference
to doctors, nurses, and other officials
who speak the language. These are
practical steps, 'san m-bealaċ ceart!
We would recommend all those de¬
sirous of possessing a solid interesting
Gaelic reading matter to write to Mr.
Patrick O'Brien, the Gaelic publisher,
46 Cuffe st. Dublin, for his 'very in¬
teresting book, Bláiṫḟleasg de Ṁil¬
seáiniḃ na Gaeḋailge. Price, in cloth,
3s.
The Irishmen of New York and vicinity can ob¬
