AN GAODHAL.
ABHRÁN.
An "Chraoibhín Aoibhinn" ro chan.
Óch! och ón, tá gaoth d'a séideadh,
Óch! och ón, tá anfadh d'a reubadh,
'S me, mo leun, air easbhaidh céile,
Fágtha air an d-traigh;
Tamuid sgartha ó na chéile
Me féin agus mo ghrádh!
D'imthigh sé go fealltach breugach,
Na éist' a ghaoth, a anfaidh na éist leis,
Leanaidh é, d'a bhualadh reubadh,
Leanaidh é go bráth ;
Go g-cuimhnigh sé an té do thréig sé,
Do thréig sé air an d-traigh.
Ó! a Dhé, na tonna borba!
Sgread fiadhain na gaoithe gairbhe!
Bualadh na d-tonn 's na fairge,
Briseadh air an d-traigh!
Coisg, a Dhé, ó coisg na stoirme,
Budh é, budh é mo ghradh!
Óch! och ón, a rúin, mo rún-sa
D'fhag tú mé ag gol go gruamach,
D'fhag uú mé go brónach buaidhrighthe
Uaigneach gach la;
Ach, a Dhé, ó ciuinigh ciuinigh
An mhuir 'n a bh-fuil mo ghradh!
Tabhair dhó taisdeal slan sabhalta
Tionntaigh uile ghaoth contralta,
Ciuinigh uile ghaoth ró-laidir,
Seol le síon breagh,
Go h-ucht a mhuirnín é tar saile,
— Cia b' é air bith a ghradh.

SONG.
BY CRAOIBHIN AOIBHINN.
Alas! alas! the wind is blowing,
Alas! the gale is fiercer growing,
And, Oh! my grief, my love is going,
To a foreign land :
We parted where the tide is flowing —
Parted on the strand.
She left me for a false deceiver,
(List not fierce gale, I would not grieve
her)
Winds pursue her — never leave her —
Keep her thoughts on me —
Me whom she left, — her fond believer -
By the sounding sea.
Alas! Oh God! the angry ocean.
The savage tempest sits in motion.
Still; Oh still, their fierce commotion.
Bursting on the shore!
I loved her with a true devotion,
In my bosom's core.
Alas! for you, in grief I moan, love,
You left me weeping here alone, love,
My hope, on earth, with you has flown
[love,
Sadly I repine. —
But Oh! good God! she was my own
[love,
Calm the raging brine!
On her journey safely lead her,
Let no adverse winds impede her,
Pleasant weather still precede her,
To the happy West.
For her sake I am a pleader —
Her I loved the best.
