ceedingly; sar, very, aspirate the
adjectives to which they are prefixed,
as; sar-mhaith, exceedingly good.
The prepositions air, on; de, of or
off ; do, to; faoi or fa, under; eidir
or idir, between; mar, like to, because,
as; ó, from; tar, over; tre, through;
um, about, cause aspiration, as; air
bhárr an tigh (tigh, gen. of teach, a house),
on the top of the house.
These are the leading rules for aspi¬
ration; we shall note the others and
also the exceptions in a future lesson.
Students will remember that we no¬
ted in a former lesson the nine conso¬
nants which are subject to aspiration.
Eclipsing consonants and those that
are eclipsed —
m eclipise b, as;
ar mbád, our boat.
g " c, "
ar g-ceart, " right.
n " d "
bhur n-dorus, your door
d " t "
a d-tír, their country.
b " p "
ar b-páisde, our child.
bh " f "
a bh-fuil, their blood.
n " g "
ar ngabhar, our goat.
t " s "
an t-slat, the rod.
Eclipsis takes place after the poss¬
essive pronouns ar, our; bhur, your ; a,
their, as; ar d-talamh, our land. In
the gen. plural of nouns when the ar¬
ticle is expressed, as; na m-bó, of the
cows.
The prepositions ag, at; air, on; is,
inns, or ins, in; as, out of ; faoi or fa,
under; gus, towards; leis, with; mar,
like, as; ó, from; thar, over; treas,
tre, through; um, about, when follow¬
ed by the article, cause eclipsis of
the noun in the singular number only,
as; air an d-talamh, on the land. The
prepositions a or i, in ; iar, after, asp¬
irate with or without the article.
We shall treat of this more fully as
we go along.

Tá brón fuar a's ceo dubh go ro-thiugh
'sna speurthaibh,
Tá donas air sholus a's sonas geal
Pheobus:
Fuiseoga 's spideoga gan ceol in a m-
beulaibh;
An bhó ins an m-buaile gan lúgh a's gan
géimnigh.
Ní luascann gal gaoithe bárr craoibhe
no crann,
Is iongantach ciuineas na b-plúr a's na
d-tom;
Na reullta 'sna speurthaibh go bagarach
donn,
'S tá tachtadh san aer tiugh, tá sé cho
trom.
Is marbh an torrann aig sruthán an t-
sléibhe,
A n-dé bhí ag ritheadh go h-aoibhinn 's go
h-aereach,
Ní'l bricín san uisce ag rinnce 's ag
léimnigh,
Ní'l filbín ag sgríoch ná feadóg ná eun
ann.
Tá 'n neanntóg ruadh air chúl an bhalla,
An fóthanán cruaidh 's an cupóg ghrána,
An fligh 's gach luibh tá go tiugh ag fás
ann.
Go socair, socair 's cosamhlacht báis
ann.
Óch, is forus d'aithne go bh-fuil an bás
ann,
Is forus d'aithne air lionndubh Nádúir,
Air throime na spéire bhí cho h-áidhbheul
Go raibh ádhbhar geur-ghoil air feadh an
Náisiuin.
Is bás níos measa ná míle bás é.
Bás an athar budh chiuin, 's budh ghrádhach,
Athair árd na g-cléir' 's na m bráthair
Och, is é do bhás-sa do mhill an náisiún.
Áirdeasboig dhílis, grádh na cléire,
