AN GAODHAL
GIDH SEO M AMHARC DÉIGHIONACH AIR ÉIRINN A
CHAOIDH.
Fonn — An Cúilean.
Gidh seo m'amharc déighionach air a Éirinn a chaoidh,
Gheabhfad Éire 'n gach tír a mbéidh cuisle mo chroidhe;
Béidh d'ucht mar theach-dhídin, a chéile mo chlaon,
Is do rosg mar reult eoluis a n-geur-bhruid i g-cian
Go cuan uaigneach fásaigh, no cuan coimhidheach gorg.
Ann nach féidir le ar námhaid ar gcoiscéim do lorg.
Eulóchad le mo Chúilfhionn, 's ní aireochaidh mé an síon
Cho geur leis an námhaid, tá d'ar n-dibirt as díon.
Dearfad air ór-fholt tiugh, fáinneach do chinn,
Is éistfead le ceoltaibh do chláirsighe tá binn,
Gan eagla go stróicfeadh an Sasanach feall,
Aon teud ar do chruit, no aon dlaoidh as do cheann.
THO' THE LAST GLIMPSE OF ERIN
Air — The Coulin.
Tho' the last glimpse of Erin with sorrow I see,
Yet wherever thou art shall seem Erin to me;
In exile thy bosom shall still be my home,
And thine eyes make my climate wherever we roam
To the gloom of some desert or cold rocky shore,
Where the eye of the stranger can haunt us no more,
I will fly with my Coulin, and think the rough wind
Less rude than the foes we leave frowning behind.
And I'Il gaze on thy gold hair, as graceful it wreathes
And hang o'er thy soft harp, as wildly it breathes;
Nor dread that the cold hearted Saxon will tear
One chord from that harp, or one lock from that
hair.

The Gael being intensely Irish, it is, therefore,
intensely American and Democratic. Hence, to
avert the danger of a high salaried oligarchy ta¬
king the government of the country into their own
hands, the Gael, hereby, initiates a movement in
consonance with the idea that no Republican
official, save the President should receive a high¬
er salary than five thousand dollars a year,
